How Watershed Challenges Connect Us

Thursday, March 28 | 7:00 pm8:00 pm MDT

Free

Join outfitter, guide, and Patagonia Ambassador Hilary Hutcheson, accompanied by Wade Fellin of Save Wild Trout, for a discussion about the health of southwest Montana’s wild rivers.

Southwest Montana is home to multiple blue-ribbon trout streams. The Big Hole, Ruby, and Beaverhead Rivers attract anglers from near and far in search of some of the best fly fishing in the country.

Recent declines in wild trout populations threaten the health of these watersheds and the communities that depend on them. Save Wild Trout, a new grassroots nonprofit developing and advocating for science-based solutions for protecting healthy rivers and wild trout, is working with community members to find the reason for these historically low counts. Hilary and Wade will talk about this new coalition and some of the challenges these cold-water fisheries face.

Light refreshments and snacks will be provided.

In addition to being a Patagonia fly fishing ambassador, Hilary is a guide and owner of Lary’s Fly & Supply in her hometown of Columbia Falls. She’s involved with many conservation organizations, including Backcountry Hunters & Anglers and Protect Our Winters, and you may recognize her from her time as owner and co-host of Trout TV.

Wade is a fifth-generation Montanan deeply rooted in river recreation and ranching in the Upper Missouri Basin. His family founded and operates one of the first cattle ranches in Southwestern Montana on the headwaters of the Big Hole. Wade strives to preserve and protect the natural resources that make Montana the Treasure State, while respecting its traditions and communities that have lived on and with the land and rivers for the past century.

We hope you’ll join us to learn more about this collaborative effort to save southwest Montana’s wild trout.
