Spring is the best time to be in the Pryor Mountains. On this out-and-back adventure, we’ll pause to admire the diversity of birds and wildflowers that make the Pryors an ecological hot spot in southern Montana. Our route will take us up Bear Canyon to the Big Sky Trail until we hit the “T” junction. We’ll find a scenic spot for lunch somewhere along the way before retracing our footsteps. The Pryors are part of the traditional homelands of the Apsáalooke (Crow) people, and petroglyphs, pictographs, and tipi rings are all possible sightings, so it is important to visit with respect.

The Rocky Mountain Front humbles visitors with revelations of human and geologic history. Carved by the Sun River, Sun Canyon showcases the power of water and is home to many pictographs from the area's earliest inhabitants. We'll respectfully visit these pictographs as our trek progresses alongside the river's crystal clear waters. Then, we'll backtrack to Wagner Basin to see the skull tree, Castle Reef, and Sawtooth Mountain.

Experience spring wildflowers and towering mountain views along the Rocky Mountain Front. This mostly level, five-mile hike takes off from Dearborn Canyon and follows a trail up Falls Creek that, until 2019, was not accessible to the public. We'll visit two waterfalls and discuss how grassroots conservation groups have pulled together to ensure access to special places along the Rocky Mountain Front.

Join Yaak Valley Forest Council and Wild Montana to identify native plants along the historic Callahan Trail! This walk is a part of the Lincoln County City Nature Challenge, an annual event promoting the connection between people and nature.

Join Wild Montana and Upper Missouri Breaks Audubon for a birding adventure at Giant Springs State Park. While meandering the lovely park's trails, we'll keep our ears and eyes peeled for raptors, song birds, and whatever else flies our way. Beginning birders are encouraged to join. Binoculars and field guides will be available for borrowing.

This year, Wild Montana is celebrating Earth Day with Flathead Rivers Alliance. Join us on Sunday, April 21, to clean up several fishing access sites along the Flathead River.
