Earth Day Big Hole River Cleanup

Saturday, April 22, 2023 | 10:00 am4:00 pm MDT

Wild Montana’s Southwestern Wildlands Chapter celebrates it’s third annual Earth Day Big Hole River Cleanup this year – and we’d love for you to join us.

The Big Hole River begins high in the mountains south of Wisdom and joins the Wise River at the “big ol’ rock” just north of Wise River. From there, it meanders another 55 miles before joining up with the Beaverhead and Ruby Rivers to form the Jefferson.

Along the path of this nationally famous Blue Ribbon trout stream are numerous fishing access sites and campgrounds managed by the BLM and Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks. The river is popular year-round for floating, fishing, and mosquitoes, especially during the Salmon Fly hatch in the spring.

With popularity comes the usual trash and overflowing fire pits, which the agencies need help keeping up with. That’s where we come in to do the annual spring cleaning. Last year 24 volunteers participated and enjoyed a fine meal together at the Melrose Salmon Fly camping area at the end of the day.

Join us on Earth Day for a good day of work and camaraderie! For more info, call Sherry at 406-560-6184 or Roger at 406-491-0090.
