Lewis & Clark Caverns Tour

Location: Cardwell

We'll explore intriguing cave formations on this state park adventure. Be prepared for lots of bending and one short three-foot slide!

Saturday, June 13th (Early Season)

Porcupine Creek

Location: Big Sky
Miles/Difficulty: 6.5 miles/Moderate
Leaders: Stewart Mohr and Jeanette Hall

Explore the Porcupine Creek drainage south of Big Sky. We'll meander through open grassland, with one huff-and-puff to reach the highest point, before continuing downhill along First Creek to return to Porcupine Creek.

Middle Cottonwood Canyon Bird Walk

Location: Bozeman

As we head up into the Bridger Mountains, two professional birders and field biologists will help hikers observe and identify the birds we spot along the way.

Friday, June 19th (Early Season)

Dailey Creek to Teepee Creek

Location: Bozeman
Miles/Difficulty: 6 miles/Moderate
Leaders: Patti Steinmuller and Donna Murphrey

Starting in Yellowstone National Park and ending in the Hyalite-Porcup[ine-Buffalo Horn Wilderness Study Area, this walk will take beginning hikers, families, and others through sagebrush meadows with views of the Gallatin and Madison Ranges.

Spanish Creek Meander

Location: Gallatin Gateway
Miles/Difficulty: 3 miles/Easy

This is a wilderness meander meant for writers, artists, photographers. Bring your lunch and tools for your art, and find your inspiration along the creek, in a forested meadow, or on a scenic overlook.

Sunlight Meadow on the Gallatin Crest

Location: Emigrant
Miles/Difficulty: 7 miles/Strenuous

We'll explore an ancient petrified forest and wander through eye-popping wildflowers on our way to the Gallatin Crest in the Hyalite Porcupine Buffalo Horn Wilderness Study Area just north of Yellowstone National Park.

Louise Lake

Location: Cardwell
Miles/Difficulty: 7 miles/Moderately-Strenuous

We'll climb along switchbacks and through lodgepole forest to Louise Lake at the base of Middle Mountain, where we'll be inspired by beautiful views of the crest of the Tobacco Roots.

Indian Ridge

On this hike, we'll catch lovely views and see plenty of wildflowers on a nicely defined trail that climbs steadily.

No Child Left Inside: Pioneer Falls

Location: Gallatin Gateway
Miles/Difficulty: 6 miles/Moderately-Strenuous
Leaders: Dean Center and Susan Davis

This gentle hike will bring us to a beautiful cascading waterfall in the Lee Metcalf Wilderness. The length and accesibility make this a great outing for middle school-aged kids, along with a parent or guardian.

Saturday, July 18th (Late Season)

Crystal Cave

Location: Livingston
Miles/Difficulty: 14.5 miles/Extremely Strenuous
Leaders: Jeanette Hall and Holly Jessen

We'll follow the east fork of Mill Creek through forests and wildflower meadows to Crystal Cave in the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness. The cave is large enough to walk into and explore, so bring a flashlight or headlamp.

Run/Hike to Campfire Lake

Location: Clyde Park
Miles/Difficulty: 8 miles/Extremely Strenuous
Leaders: Mikaela Howie and Anthony Pavkovich

This will be a run/hike to Campfire Lake, where we'll find spectacular views from the ridge above the lake. Although the water will be chilly, a dip in the lake might be just what the doctor ordered after a tough climb.

Goose Creek/Bear Canyon Loop

Location: Bozeman
Miles/Difficulty: 13.5 miles/Extremely Strenuous
Leaders: Graham Russell and Sunniva Russell

We'll hike along Goose Creek Road up to Bear Canyon Loop, where we'll be greeted by stunning views of the Absoroka Range.

Saturday, August 22nd (Late Season)

Flanders Lake

Location: Bozeman
Miles/Difficulty: 5.5 miles/Strenuous
Leaders: Tom Ross and Bob Bayley

A steep and seldom-used trail in the East Hyalite drainage will lead us to a hidden gem of an alpine lake nestled in a steep-walled cirque. This out-and-back route includes two stream crossing, one of which must be waded.

Eaglehead Mountain and Windy Pass Loop

Location: Big Sky
Miles/Difficulty: 9.5 miles/Extremely Strenuous
Leaders: Tom Ross and Lisa Lenard

Hike on and off trail to the 10,000' summit of Eaglehead, then follow the Gallatin Crest north to Windy Pass for outstanding views and wonderful alpine meadows in the Hyalite Porcupine Buffalo Horn Wilderness Study Area.

Black Butte/Dailey Creeks Loop

Location: Big Sky
Miles/Difficulty: 6 miles/Moderately Strenuous
Leaders: Roger Jenkins and Lisa Trankley

This ramble will bring us to a saddle north of Lava Butte, in the wild country of the southern Gallatin Range. We'll descend through the meadowlands surrounding Dailey Creek, which offer sweeping views of the Madison Range.
