Wild Montana’s Wild Divide Chapter is proud to announce the winners of the 2022 Wilderness Essay Contest.

After sharing our essay contest with all the high schools and colleges within our chapter boundaries, we received 82 essays from area youth. From these, we selected five to receive awards, including a $100 check, a copy of our new map, a Discover Wild Montana trail book, Wild Montana gear, and a one-year Wild Montana membership.

Participants were asked to first read excerpts from the recently released “A Wild Land Ethic” book and then answer the prompt “what do Montana’s wildlands mean to you.” The essays were thoughtful and show a promising future for our local conservation efforts. We hope to include some of these essays in future newsletters.

2022 essay contest winners:

  • Wyatt Barrett, Augusta
  • Nattlie Cragen, Jefferson High School in Boulder
  • Emma Graham, Broadwater High School in Townsend
  • Kylee Copenhavre, Lincoln
  • McKenna Robertson, Capital High School in Helena

Thank you to all the teachers and students who participated.
