Since 1960, Wild Montana volunteers have led group hikes all summer long, but there’s no reason for the fun to stop when the snow starts flying!

Starting in December, Wild Montana will offer winter adventures throughout the state. These free outings and educational experiences are led by volunteers who are passionate about Montana’s wild public lands.

Winter Adventures are a chance to . . .
  • Meet new friends while exploring wild places.
  • Learn about the history and ecology of Montana’s landscapes.
  • Work on new skills, like snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and igloo-building.
  • Share connection and community on public lands.

Our 2023/2024 Winter Adventure Program

  • Winter Adventures are offered December–February.
  • You can register for each Winter Adventure one month before its start date.
  • All Winter Adventures are free and open to the public.

Register for an outing by selecting the event in the calendar below and using the “Register Here” button on that Adventure’s event page. If you have any questions about the registration process, please contact Sonny Mazzullo at smazzullo@wildmontana.org.

Please Note:

  • Dogs are not allowed in fairness to fellow walkers and wildlife.
  • Firearms are not permitted, but bring bear spray if needed.
  • Most adventures require participants to provide their own equipment, such as cross-country skis or snowshoes. If snowshoes are available for a particular event, it will be mentioned in the event description. All personal gear, food, and water are your responsibility. Please be sure you’re properly equipped with extra layers of clothing for abrupt weather changes.
  • Be sure to plan adequate travel time so you’re at the meeting place at the appointed hour. Road conditions could slow you down, so please plan accordingly.
  • For the safety of the entire group, please only sign up for Adventures that you are confident match your physical abilities.
  • After signing up, you’ll receive your Adventure leader’s contact information. You can follow up with them with questions you may have about logistics or the difficulty of the walk.
  • Adventures are free to join, thanks to the generosity of our volunteer Adventure leaders. Please respect their efforts – only sign up for walks you honestly plan to join, and be sure to communicate if you’ve had an unexpected change in your plans.
