Whether your a teacher, a student, a retiree or just someone with some extra time on your hands this summer — one of these gigs is sure to be a fit. And it's outdoor work for a great cause! Trail Steward(s) in Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness
You'll be representing MWA and the US Forest Service while you hike around the woods, interact with visitors, clean campsites, check trail signs, trail work, collect trail user information and help forest visitors in need. Monthly volunteer stipend provided. Natural resource students encouraged to apply. Two positions available. June – August.
White Bark Pine Data Collection on CDT
MWA has partnered with the MT Natural Heritage Program (U of M). Hike on the Continental Divide for 7 days at a time with co-worker, collect tree data (training provided), must be OK backpacking, camping in grizzly country and good company on the trail. Spend full summer out on the trail or just specific dates (hitches). Various time frames available. Late June – early September.
Support Crew for Warrior Hike
WarriorHike.com is hosting 6 soliders on the Continental Divide Trail to “walk off the war” and thru-hike from Mexico to Canada this summer. When they reach Montana in August we’ll need volunteers to help with shuttles to/from trailheads, resupply drops, home stays and a hot shower; 5-8 spots. More detailed info updated as we make our way into summer and hikers head north.
Artist in Residence: ARTside on the Divide
Are you an artist that wants to find your muse on the Great Divide? Spend 1-2 weeks in a cabin on the divide and let your creative energy flow! Parntership project with USFS. Cabin stays only available for September. MWA if offering 2 artist positions: #1: youth artist under 18 years old (with parent), #2: Adult artist. Community presentation required in spring 2015. Stipend offered.
CDT Montana Camp Cook
You will feel so appreciated when feeding a hungry group of trail workers. Smiles, thank-yous and rave reviews are in abundance. Join any CDT Montana trail project to wield a spatula instead of a shovel. Sign up on regular CDT Montana registration as cook. MWA staff will help offer tips and advice about meal planning, packing and other info. Shopping budget and camping/kitchen gear provided by MWA.

CDT Montana Trail Scout
Before each trail project MWA staff don’t always have time to lay eyes on the work. Help us with the details by going out a week in advance to take notes, snap photos and give us the low-down. We’ll give you a checklist so you know what to look for. Attention to detail, good note-taking and map geeks encouraged to apply. See project list for locations.
