Chasing light in the Rattlesnake Wilderness under the cover of winter was a unique opportunity to highlight the beauty of this remarkable wild place that's tucked away in Missoula’s backyard.

The project began with a clearly defined objective: to photograph the Rattlesnake Wilderness in winter. That’s it. But then something unexpected happened.

Today is the 40th birthday of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, a "magnificent primeval expanse of nearly a million acres...a land of jewel-like lakes, clear cold streams, and picturesque waterfalls".
