This is a family-friendly hike up to a mountain lake in the East Pioneers. Hike through pine and fir, along an established trail. Along the way, we should see plenty of wildflowers. We can also explore the wreckage of an old airplane crash on the lake's far side.

This is an enjoyable loop hike in the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness that offers superb scenery. The hike follows Carpp Creek upstream, through Maloney Basin and Black Bear Meadows, to the base of Mount Warren. The descent winds through Upper and Lower Carpp Lakes.

Near Bohn Lake, a short section climbs through trees and opens to a steep rocky slope. We will continue along an open ridge with easy hiking to a final steep ascent to the top of Mt Powell.

Walk through the woods to the small Schwinger Lake. There is the possibility for a side trip to Lake of the Woods or up onto Odell Mountain, on the crest of the wooded West Pioneers.

The upper cirque has great scenery of nearby peaks and the Twin Lakes. Our return hike may be cross country down the creek in search of some nice waterfalls situated just above Tent Lake. Most of this area is within the Torrey Mountain Recommended Wilderness (72,530 acres) that can be found in the most recent Beaverhead-Deerlodge forest plan.
