Volunteer Photographer

Now seeking Volunteer Photographers for the 2018 season

Montana Wilderness Association is seeking professional-level photographers to help us capture the Volunteer Trail Crew experience. You can join a project as a Volunteer Photographer and spend your day documenting the good times, scenic views, and accomplishments on the trail. Photos are one of the best ways to capture and share what happens on the trail - we need photos for our website, social media, and to document the work we do for our partners. Your pictures will be an invaluable resource for years to come as MWA shares the stories of our volunteers and our landscapes.

Would I make a good Volunteer Photographer?

MWA is looking for photographers with an established portfolio of high quality, engaging images. You are not a good fit for this position if your idea of a quality photo is a selfie on your iPhone. Here's what is expected of a Volunteer Photographer:

  • An artistic perspective
  • Preview a collection of your work beforehand to prove you are the real deal
  • Supply your own high quality camera and equipment
  • Willing and able to camp and hike alongside the trail crew during the project
  • Share digital copies of the photos taken for MWA's use in storytelling efforts and volunteer recruitment materials

Do I have to come out for an entire project?

Nope! Volunteer Photographers are welcome to join a project for one day or the whole week. You will simply need to coordinate exact dates ahead of time so the trip crew leader can plan accordingly.

How do I sign up?

Contact stewardship coordinator Sonny Mazzullo at smazzullo@wildmontana.org or 406.334.7378 for more info on projects. You can share your portfolio with Sonny, discuss logistics, and determine which project works best for your summer schedule.
